Mark Lowe was a father-of-two and a motorsports enthusiast. He worked for the South Tees Hospital Trust as a Porter with the radiography team at Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital for 20 years.
On his death, Trust Chief Executive Sue Page said workers were "heartbroken at the loss of a member of our South Tees family" adding that Mark Lowe was a "kind and brilliant colleague".
A spokesperson for colleagues said: “Mark was a kind man with a genuine heart and a wicked sense of humour, always standing for what he believed was fair, right and justified. His death has been felt across all wards and departments.”
His friend Ken Hall said: "He was a very good friend who would help anybody if they needed it. I knew that if I phoned him he'd be there if I needed him. It's hard to accept what's happened to a lad that's so genuine."
He died at the hospital where he worked on Thursday 28 May 2020 of COVID-19 at the age of 46.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues.
We will remember Mark Lowe.
